January 2012 Sketchy Challenge

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope that 2012 is a wonderful year for you, filled with good health, happiness and dreams come true. It might sound corny, but my optimism prevails at the start of a new year, and I get very excited about the possibilities and opportunities that await in the year to come :)

January means a fresh start, a new perspective on life and hopefully many more scrapbook creations!

Today I'd like to share the layout I designed for the Canadian Scrapbooker January Sketchy Challenge.

Here is Jill Sarginson's wonderful sketch....

Who doesn't love creating a winter page with a snowman? Hmmm...I suppose it might be a rare occasion to build a snowman for my scrapbooking friends living in warm climates.  Actually, right now we almost have had a brown Christmas with very little snowfall.  Not that I'm anxious for more white stuff to arrive...oh no.  But we have not had enough snow for snowmen, so I had to dig through my archives to find these pics of BabyOfTheFamily (BOF) from 2008.

I clearly remember taking these photos because when I saw this snowman, I thought, "WOW! His head is so perfectly shaped!"  BOF thought this was hilarious and couldn't stop laughing at my compliment....that's because she used her brother's basketball for the snowman's head and covered it with snow! (and NO, we did NOT tell her brother!)

Here is my layout based on Jill's sketch...

I used papers from the BoBunny "Snowfall" Collection....such a beautiful set of papers, all glittery and sparkly...and they're actually sold out in every scrapbook store in town!

I think the star of this page is the snowman....and I'm so happy to tell you that BabyOfTheFamily made this handsome fella!  Just before Christmas, she attended a wonderful craft workshop for kids at The Urban Scrapbook.  The crafts were designed by the talented Krista.  I think the snowman is cut with a Sizzix die.

He is covered with Silver Stickles and his hat is outlined with Picket Fence Distress Stickles.

A couple more close-ups...

Just LOVE this snowflake punch from Stampin' Up!

I punched the snowflakes from Best Creations Glitter Paper.  Now there's a great short cut...no Stickles or Glitter or mess necessary....just use Glitter paper instead!

This laser cut wood title is from Ezee Pzee...a Canadian company.

Ezee Pzee makes lots of fabulous chipboard elements too!

Ironically, I'm posting this wintery layout and then flying off to Mexico....so my next design might include photos of sand....instead of snow.  Yay!

Wishing you all the best in 2012 :)

December Sketchy Challenge

Is it mid-December?  Really?

And I haven't posted my Canadian Scrapbooker December Sketchy Challenge layout yet...oops!

Here is Jill Sarginson's wonderful December sketch...

And here is my layout, using the TaDa Creative Studios "Frozen Tozen" collection...

The photos are BoyGenius skating for the first time on an outdoor lake at Jasper Park Lodge.

Those wonderful large white snowflakes are Ezee Pzee chipboard elements that I painted white....love their chipboard designs!

I added Harmonie tile mosaics to the top and bottom borders for some dimension.

This collection comes with a super cute sticker sheet and journaling spots....

I did some paper piercing along the journalling spot and the round tag to coordinate with my Martha Stewart round the page border punch....

Even though I'm not a big fan of winter weather, I do love creating winter and Christmas pages!  As long as I'm indoors :)
