So why the negative title...with the word "hate"?
I suppose I don't technically HATE the iPhone. In the hands of a teenage girl, however, the iPhone completely consumes.... and the eyes are always cast DOWNWARDS, checking for texts, typing texts and playing games, searching for apps, using apps....the list is endless.
No, the list doesn't end there, most definitely not. Because what my teenage daughter LOVES about her iPhone is the camera.
Move over Ali Edwards....teenage girls all over the world have far bypassed Project 365 and turned it into Project 3650!!
I suddenly realized this during our Spring Break holiday when I discovered that DramaQueen takes photos of everything and anything all day long. While eating, while shopping, while "chilling".....and most often of herself. Oh yeah, lots and lots and LOTS of photos of herself.
And yes, this is the same daughter that always gives me THE HAND when I pull out MY camera. [check my blog post HERE to see some classic Hand pics]
So I had a really good idea, and I said to her, "Hey, do you realize that you are chronicling your entire life practically moment by moment with your iPhone photos?" and then I expressed how much I would enjoy having some of those photos to scrapbook.
Guess what DQ gave to me a few days later?? A memory stick, filled with her iPhone photos. I could NOT believe it. How lucky am I???
It turns out....not so lucky. And some nasty feelings about the iPhone arose as I downloaded her photos onto my computer and checked them out.
Here is the first photo....
And the next.... |
And the third....well, at least she got her baby sister in the shot too. |
Yes, there are more! Because there are so many apps and filters that she uses. In fact, sometimes I feel like an alien (called the iPhone) has abducted her. Now I have proof!
She's so thoughtful...she even included some photos of the two of us....
And I thought I didn't have many wrinkles. |
How nice! A photo of some of the volleyball team! In the Girls Washroom. |
I admit, it's not all bad. After scrolling through about 100 shots, there were about 4 iPhone photos that I am pretty pleased to have...
My birthday flowers and me. |
Sisters in the van. |
An affectionate moment between DQ and BOF.....shocking! |
My big brother and my mother at Christmas. |
And so I was inspired to create a layout to capture this phase of crazy pics in DQ's life...
The pearls are from KaiserCraft |
I used mostly Heidi Swapp new Sugar Chic papers in the monthly sketch kit at The Urban Scrapbook. This is such a fun, colourful collection... perfect for teens!
After I finished this layout, I thought, hey, maybe the iPhone isn't so bad after all :)
It's the same thing where I work (and probably just about any place that anyone else works). All day long, all I see are the employees playing around with their dang phones (iPhones, Droids, you name it). Even the older (40 & up) crowd has turned into a bunch of teenagers when it comes to their mobile devices. As difficult as it might be for someone to believe, I don't own one of these devices yet. I'm still old school with my 7 year old Sony Ericsson cell phone. I told myself that I wouldn't upgrade until my phone kicked the bucket. Well, I must have one of the only (old) cell phones on the planet that just won't break....no matter what I put it through...lol So, in the meantime, not only am I the most mobile device challenged person on the planet, I'm also the only one at my place of employment getting any work done....lol
ReplyDeleteKelly, LOVED reading your post (and the post about Mexico--or should I say the hand?? though I loved the pic with her holding the camera. very unique!!) and your lo is so fun! Love the mixture of patterned papers, and the bows are such a neat touch!
ReplyDeleteHA ha ha, love the post Kelly!!! You did get some great pics out of it! This LO is awesome, love the details and the row of pics on the banner (great idea!) Good luck tearing your fam away from the I phone :)
ReplyDeleteGreat post & pics! I'm thinking your daughter has a great sense of humour like her mother! ps-LOVE MY iPHONE!
ReplyDeleteso funny! I love that layout with the photos and the glasses. It would be hilarious to surprise her with a full album of her phone pics!! :)
ReplyDeleteKelly your stories are always so honest and humorous. We call my son's i-phone his third arm. He can play basketball and ping pong and still doesn't miss a text. I shake my head in wonder some days. I just giggled when I saw the photos in the bathroom. What girl hasn't done that...I'm tempted!! Next time at Urban..we are going to do it, lol. Your layout is fabulous! I love all the details. I can't wait for your kids to get older and sit down and look through their layouts.
ReplyDeleteFunny story, like the LO...bows are so creative and unique, Kelly! WHen my dd takes pics of herself they come out really nice, but anytime I've tried it myself my smile looks forced and I look terrible! lol. Enjoy the weekend with your family. My dd just finished her school year so we get to sleep in! xo
ReplyDeletehaha! My daughter is the same...she doesn't have an iphone, but is constantly taking pics (mostly of herself). She actually did take a photography class this year and is quite an amazing little photographer now. LOVE this post and LOVE the lo!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I know I've said it a thousand times before but you really DO crack me up Sweetie! Thanks for the giggles this early in the AM! Glad to see that "The Hand" will at least take her own photos! All is not in vain {or should I say it IS when it comes to teengae girls ...but at least their self photo obssession gives us ample scrapping material!LOL}I know , I know ...I'm always threatening to have the kids ' cellphones surgically removed from theit fingertips. Altho I have to confesss that seeing all those awesome photo filters makes me wanna rush right out and buy an i- phone.
ReplyDeleteYour posts always make me smile, Kelly!!!! I absolutley LOVE why you hate the i-phone!!!!! Love all of the photos your dd took and how there were FOUR good ones in the bunch! And the layout you made is absolutely amazing!!!!! As always, my friend! I hope you are having a good weekend!
ReplyDeletehahaha..fun story and fabulous page Kelly! xxx
ReplyDeleteI laughed hysterically at your post! Our daughters really should meet and compare camera photos and apps! I don't know where they find these things!
ReplyDeleteLove the bow ties (& you got a good photo of her in the layout!) Also love the picture of you and your birthday flowers (if I remember right, I think your birthday is the same as my oldest......Have a great week Kelly!
ReplyDeleteYou had me at that first photo. Oh my gosh. I totally get you on this. We went on a family trip to the beach with extended family and cousin A, then 14, had her phone in hand 24/7, texting away and taking pics. It was really sad to me. But, I love the way you turned your frustration into a very funny post and totally fab page. Such fun pops of color. I always love your posts and your work. :)
ReplyDeleteThose bows are so cute! Such a fun vibrant page and awesome design!
